This Site!
This website was built using dotnet's Blazor toolkit. As one of the newest tools available in the dotnet ecosystem, it allows me to quickly build a web app capable of anything.
It can be a simple semi-static site like this one, only adding complexity when it is necessary, or it can be used to build a very complex site. As the name implies, no matter what your ask of Blazor, it will deliver it with exceptional, 🔥blazing fast🔥 performance.
What's right for you?
So, what is right for you? Well, that all depends what your needs are.
In simple terms, a website builder is like an artist. When using a website building service, you're giving the artist a limited set of tools with which to craft your work of art. However, when building from scratch, I can bring all my own tools and build exactly what you need.
If you want a simpler site that I build up, and you maintain with personal updates, I would suggest starting with a website builder like squarespace, wix or one of the many others. They allow for a fair amount of customization, while maintaining your ability to do some of the work yourself through their CMS (Content Management System). However, users of these services commonly complain "it looks great on my computer, but when I look on my phone, it looks terrible" or "I have a pretty simple site, why does it load so slowly?". These are just some of the downsides to building a site using these services. Because their templates need to be able to work for all of their users, and all of their various needs, they come with a lot of bloat and they fail to display at the same quality accross devices. They also tend to run on shared hardware and websites are served on a first come, first serve basis, which may lead to performance problems. The display problems can be generally be mitigated with some custom work, but because you're working in a strictly defined template framework, it is often difficult to get it just right.
On the other hand: If you want something beautiful, fast and unique that will give your customers a common experience accross all devices, then I suggest having a website built from scratch, just like grandma used to.
Only the freshest ingredients are used. 😉
The proper time, care and attention are taken to ensure cross-device compatability and it is generally easier to accomplish when I have the freedom of working with a blank slate. I can also host the website on one of my servers hosted in a private ☁️cloud for maximum ⚡speed, 🆙uptime and 🔐security, geared specifically for your needs, and never overloaded with too many competing users.
